Who we are
Small by design, close to the work
18dev is deliberately small. The people who scope the work are the people who design and build it.
We work with service businesses, founders and growing brands across South Africa. Most engagements start with a website that is not pulling its weight: it is not ranking, not converting, or no longer representing the business. Our job is to understand why, then engineer the fix.
We also build and run our own software, including Jotter, a notes and productivity web application. Running a product of our own keeps our engineering honest, because we live with the consequences of our technical decisions.

Three working principles
Visible, then understood
Being online is not the same as being visible, and being visible is not the same as being understood. The job is bigger than producing an attractive interface: it is to structure the offer, communicate it clearly and build a system that improves over time.
Engineering before decoration
Structure, keywords and the customer journey come before visuals. A website is a working system with a commercial job, and we build it that way: clean code, fast load times, structured data, measurable results.
Honest scope, honest reporting
Written quotes before work begins. Realistic timelines. No promised rankings or outcomes we cannot control. When something is not working, we say so and fix it.
Focus
What we are focused on now
Business website design, strategic website redesigns, SEO, website maintenance and e-commerce development.
Web applications and custom software remain available where the business problem genuinely requires a product rather than a standard website.
